Nur Zeynep Gungor

I am an electrophysiologist working on fear and anxiety circuits in rodents. Specifically, I try to understand the mechanisms that promote and reduce anxiety in a brain region called the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, a part of extended amygdala. So far most of the animals I used for my research has been male. I want to explore the feminist scholarship in neurosciences with a focus to develop ideas on the recent decision of NIH, which mandates the incorporation of female animals in preclinical research. I want to understand whether and how the use of female animals will help us address the higher prevalence of anxiety disorders in women.
